What is an option chain?

An option chain is a table of every call and put option available on an index or stock for one expiry date, listed by strike price. Calls sit on the left, puts on the right, and the strike runs down the middle.

Reading it tells you how the market is pricing the future: which strikes are in the money, how expensive options are (implied volatility), where traders are most active (volume) and how bullish or bearish the overall positioning looks (PCR). Is the data real-time?

No. Prices and volume come from a third-party feed and can be delayed. Every page shows the time the data was last updated, so check it before relying on any number.

Why does the site show volume instead of open interest?

Our data source does not include open interest, so traded volume is shown wherever OI would normally appear, and PCR is calculated on volume.
